Council Helps The Homeless

Akron City Council passed legislation Monday that will enter the city into a contract with the Emergency Shelter Grant Program.

At Large Councilman, John Conti, says that this will help Akron's homeless.

"We rely on some of the agencies that serve the homeless population in the city of Akron perform this function for us," Conti explained, "To try and take care of our homeless population to provide them with housing on a transitional basis."

The city will spread $320,000 between 13 shelters to help area homeless. Conti says this should help get more homeless off the streets.

The shelters who are taking part in this grant include the Salvation Army, the Battered Women's Shelter and the Community Health Center.
