Register for the Akron-Summit County Library job seeker event 'Accelerate Your Job Search'

To help job seekers to prepare for today's job market, the Akron-Summit County Public Library is partnering with the Akron Beacon Journal/Ohio.com and Ohio.monster.com to produce a free program. The program is from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, in the main library auditorium.

Topics include:

* Writing an effective cover letter and resume
* Preparing for the interview
* Using free resources to research job opportunities
* Exploring social media tools - Helpful or harmful to your job search?
* Identifying hot careers in Northeast Ohio
* Resiliency - A key component of the job search
* Transitioning from one career to another

Keynote speakers include employment pro Doug Hardy of Monster career services in Boston. A certified job- and career-transition coach, Hardy has co-authored books and conducted numerous employment workshops. Nationally recognized keynote speaker Paul Meshanko is a registered corporate coach and master facilitator for Edge Learning Institute of Ohio in Cleveland. His newsletter, On the Edge, is read by thousands of business leaders every month.

Featured program speakers also include Diana Miller, Career Navigation Group; Nicole Pearch, certified career coach; Carin Rockind, Team NEO; Christopher Walker, Mature Services; Laura George, LHG Consulting Inc.; and Dana Beezley-Kwasnicka, Akron-Summit County Public Library.

One-on-one resume review services, conducted by members of the Akron Chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management and professional volunteers; and hands-on tutorials on how to use online job search services, conducted by Lynn Puryear of Monster.com will be offered throughout the event.

Metro bus is providing free transportation for the one-day event. Show a copy of your resume when you board any Metro bus, and you will be provided free transportation to the downtown Akron library April 7.

The city of Akron is providing free parking in any city-operated parking deck downtown Akron. Validation stickers will be available for participants at the program registration desk.
