Earned Income Tax Credit Program

Summit County Executive Russell M. Pry is encouraging income eligible citizens to maximize their tax refund by having their taxes filed for FREE through the Akron Summit Earned Income Tax Credit Program.

The low-to-moderate income tax preparation initiative is being facilitated by Akron Summit Community Action, Inc., a community organization focused on advocating for a poverty-free community.

Program eligibility guidelines for the tax year of 2009 include:

 Families with one qualifying child who earned less than $35,462 in 2009 (or less than $40,463 for married filing jointly) are eligible for a credit of up to $3,043.

 Families with two qualifying children who earned less than $40,295 in 2009 (or less than $45,295 for married filing jointly) are eligible for a credit of up to $5,028.

 Families with three or more qualifying children who earned less than $43,279 in 2009 (or less than $48,279 for married filing jointly) are eligible for a credit of up to $5,657.

 Individuals who do not have a qualifying child, but are between the ages of 25 and 64, with earned income of less than $13,440 in 2009 (or less than $18,440 for married filing jointly) are eligible for a credit up to $457.

The fast and complimentary service is being co-sponsored by the City of Akron and the County of Summit.
