Volunteers are needed to serve as Earned Income Tax Credit Program (EITC) Tax Preparers, Quality Reviewers, Intake Specialists, Greeters or Office Assistants for a minimum of two hours a week, January 25 through April 12, 2010. The EITC program provides FREE tax preparation for low to moderate income individuals and families –
the program can help working families receive up to $5,657 back in refunds.
Volunteer positions include:
TAX PREPARERS prepare tax returns (Federal and State) utilizing Tax Wise software – typically, the Federal forms would be the 1040.
QUALITY REVIEWERS verify that the return is complete and all necessary documents are attached before being submitted to the IRS.
INTAKE SPECIALISTS review essential documents, personal financial data from the client, assists with the completion of the intake sheet and assigns client to tax preparer.
GREETERS are responsible for verifying incoming clients with the appointment schedule, monitor client and volunteer sign-in sheets and answer phone calls.
OFFICE ASSISTANTS assist in making copies of tax returns and any other office/clerical related duties.
Tax Law certification is required for all volunteer tax preparers, intake assessors, and quality reviewers. In-Classroom Tax Law trainings & Software training or Self-Study materials will be provided free. A supervising Tax Professional will be on site at each site at all times. There is no experience needed by the volunteer. There is also no liability to tax preparer and sites are IRS approved.
