Lifeline: Helping Seniors Stay Independent

An elderly woman with a medical history of high blood pressure and strokes had been a client of Info Line's Lifeline service, a United Way funded program, since 2001.

This fall, Info Line received a "help needed" signal from the woman. Although they were unable to hear her clearly, they could tell she was in distress and immediately called one of her responders -- a nearby neighbor. Her neighbor found her on the floor in her home with a broken arm. Upon speaking with the neighbor, Info Line called EMS and the elderly woman was transported to the hospital.

Info Line also immediately contacted the woman's daughter to let her know her mother was
being transported, and the daughter was able to get to the hospital before her mother. The daughter shared with us that it was so comforting to her mother to see her family when she arrived at the hospital emergency room and to know she was not alone.

After this incident, the woman was moved into a nursing home, but Lifeline helped her remain independent in her own home until age 98.
