To keep those close to veterans in check with their health, the Summit County Veterans Service Commission is offering vouchers that cover the cost of a health and wellness examination for spouses and dependents of local veterans.
"The idea was to put people in a position where they could at least get basic primary care check ups," explained George Baker, commission executive director.
To sign up, there are two factors that come into play; you must be a dependent of a veteran and the patient's ability to cover medical costs will be examined. Property taxes fund the Commision, which is using its alloted cash to cover the medical check ups.
Those who are eligiable, can use their vouchers for health examinations at the Akron community Health Resources on S. Arlington Rd. Under this deal, the commission pays the average $45 fee for a check up as the Medicaid insurance program would.
Currently almost 52,000 veterans live in Summit County. Signing up for the heath coverage is done and the paperwork usually takes about a week to process, unless there is an immediate need for medical attention.
Dental care vouchers are also offered. Baker stressed that dental visits are important to keep up on as well.
